ABOUT BURIRAM

Buriram is a province located in the northeastern part of Thailand, celebrated for its historical and cultural significance. The name "Buriram" translates to "City of Happiness," and the area is renowned for its blend of ancient heritage and modern attractions.

One of its most famous landmarks is Phanom Rung Historical Park, an impressive Khmer temple complex situated on an extinct volcano, which dates back to the 10th century.

The province is also a hub for sports, especially motorsports and football. Chang International Circuit hosts international events like the Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix, attracting motorsport enthusiasts from around the world. Buriram United, the local football team, has gained national fame, playing at the modern Chang Arena, one of Thailand’s top football stadiums.

Nature lovers can explore Khao Kradong Forest Park, a serene area that offers panoramic views from a former volcano and features a prominent Buddha statue at the summit. The economy of Buriram is largely agricultural, with rice farming playing a central role, though tourism—driven by both historical sites and sporting events—is rapidly growing.

Culturally, Buriram remains a stronghold of traditional Isan customs, highlighted by events like the Phanom Rung Festival, where the local community celebrates ancient Khmer architecture with music, dance, and ceremonies. The local cuisine is reflective of Isan’s spicy and bold flavours, with dishes like Som Tum and sticky rice being staples in the region.

Despite its modern advancements in sports and tourism, Buriram retains a laid-back rural atmosphere, offering visitors a peaceful yet engaging experience that showcases both Thailand’s past and its vibrant contemporary culture.
